1984, Malvern, Stonnington City, Victoria 3rd Battalion Highland Light Infantry Died 4-12-1916 (wounds) aged 23years Son of Robert and Grace Debenham, Melbourne, Victoria Honoured Australian War Memorial Commemorative Roll The Argus (Melbourne) 6-12-1916 The many friends of Mr. Robert Debenham will regret to learn that his son, Lieutenant Keith Debenham, died in London on Monday. Lieutenant Debenham went to England on the outbreak of the war, and joined the Highland Light Infantry. His battalion, the third, was ordered to Mesopotamia in March last, and in the operations for the relief of Kut-el-Amara he was severely wounded in the thigh. He was sent down to Bombay, and, having spent some months in hospital there, was transferred to London for a necessary operation, which, unhappily, was followed by his death. Lieutenunt Debenham was educated at the Melbourne Grammar School, and subsequently spent some time in England and France. |
